Yoho Votes to Stop Government Overreach
Washington, DC- Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL-3) voted in favor of H.R. 5078 — Waters of the United States Regulatory Overreach Protection Act. The bill would block the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) from changing the definition of “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act (CWA). By changing this definition, the EPA and the USACE will be expanding their regulatory authority to almost any body of water - puddles, ditches, and farmland ponds -in America.
Congressman Yoho gave the following statement after his vote:
“Tonight I voted in favor of the constituents I represent and voted against regulatory expansion by the federal government. This expansion would have a negative effect on our economy and stand in the way of creating jobs in our district. The byproduct of changing the definition of “waters of the United States,” means private citizens, local farmers, and businesses will now be subjected to new mandates that they neither have the resources to meet nor a valid environmental cause justifying compliance. I believe case-specific determinations are necessary and that is best done at the state and local level. Government needs to get out of the way of citizens trying to make a living and build a stronger economy.”
