Yoho Votes to Stop Executive Amnesty

Jan 14, 2015
Press Release

Washington, DC – Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL-03) voted for H.R. 240 – Fiscal Year 2015 Homeland Security Appropriations Act. Within this bill were five amendments that focused on stopping President Obama’s executive amnesty on immigration. Congressman Yoho gave the following statement after the vote:

“Today Congress took action by using our constitutional power of the purse to stop President Obama’s executive overreach. Today’s vote is the way our Founding Father intended the legislative process to work by having Congress be a check on unconstitutional and unwanted Executive action. The President’s blatant circumvention of the legislative process by granting amnesty to such a large category of persons - roughly 5 million illegal aliens - is a violation of the law and thus has no legal effect.

“Before this vote came to the floor, I sent a letter to Republican leadership urging them to take swift action in eliminating all funding for the President’s executive action on immigration. More than 50 of my colleagues signed onto that letter in support. The voice of the American people was delivered through their Representatives in Congress and action was taken. I am pleased that leadership heard the voice of the American people.”

List of amendments in H.R. 240 - Supported by Congressman Yoho - that focus on stopping President Obama’s executive action on immigration:

Aderholt: prohibits the use of funds (including collected fees) to carry out the president’s November 20, 2014 executive action, the Morton memos of 2011-2012, and any other executive action that seeks to unilaterally change immigration laws by granting executive amnesty or federal benefits to illegal immigrants.

Blackburn: prohibits the use of funds for any new, renewed, or previously denied deferred action on childhood arrivals (DACA) applications.

DeSantis: requires the Administration to prioritize enforcement against any alien convicted of an offense involving domestic violence, sexual abuse, child molestation, or child abuse or exploitation.

Salmon: calls on the Administration to refrain from policies that disadvantage the hiring of U.S. citizens and lawful immigrants.

Shock: calls on the Administration to stop putting the interests of illegal immigrants over the interests of those who are using the proper legal channels to enter the U.S.
