Yoho Statement on Shinseki Resignation
Washington D.C. – Congressman Ted Yoho (R-FL-03) released the following statement after the announcement that Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Shinseki, resigned:
“I respect Secretary Shinseki’s decision to resign. I look forward to the appointment of a new Secretary of Veterans Affairs who will get to work fixing the systemic problems that are rampant throughout the department. In the meantime, I will continue to support legislation that ensures timely access to care for our veterans. Especially allowing veterans, who are backlogged in the system, to go to other hospitals at the VA’s expense. Veterans put their lives on the line to sacrifice for us. It is our duty to ensure they have access to care upon their return.”
Background: On Friday May 23rd, Congressman Yoho sent a letter to Secretary Shinseki asking him to resign due to the widespread negligence that has occurred at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Four other Florida Members of Congress; Rep. Southerland, Rep. Ros-Lehtinen, Rep. Ross, and Rep. Nugent joined Congressman Yoho.
