Yoho Statement on Arrest of Juan Guaidó’s Chief of Staff

Mar 21, 2019
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released a statement following the kidnapping of the chief of staff to interim President Juan Guaidó, Robert Marrero, by Nicolás Maduro’s intelligence forces.

“Maduro is a desperate thug that has ignored the voice of the Venezuelan people and will do all he can to stay in power. Today’s kidnapping of Juan Guaidó’s Chief of Staff, Robert Marrero, by Maduro’s henchmen is unacceptable, and I strongly condemn their actions. I join the international community and my colleagues in demanding the release of Robert Marrero.

“Maduro and his predecessor own the decline of that once prosperous country. The United States must continue to apply pressure via sanctions to squeeze the financial resources of the Maduro regime.  I continue to stand with interim President Guiado and his attempt to conduct free and fair elections in Venezuela.  With all the hardships endured by the Venezuelan people under a brutal dictatorship; it is time they are given the opportunity to live in a free, self-determining democracy.”
