Speaker Pelosi Breaks Her Own Rules on Funding Bill

Feb 15, 2019
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL) released the following statement after voting no on the Conference Report to Accompany H.J. Res. 31 - Consolidated Appropriations Act:

“I could not support the funding bill that was hastily brought before the House. Members of Congress were given less than twenty-four hours to read a 1200-page funding bill that falls short of the president’s request for border security.

“Whatever happened to the seventy-two-hour rule that mandates we have three days to review all major pieces of legislation brought to the House floor for a vote? We are not even two months into the 116th Congress and Speaker Pelosi has thrown that rule out the window.

“This bill falls short of the president’s funding request to secure our border and protect the American people. Securing our borders should not be a partisan issue. So why are we ignoring the suggestions from our border patrol agents and not delivering the 5.7 billion dollars requested for physical barriers; this is unacceptable.

“This legislation covers roughly a quarter of all federal discretionary spending and directly affects every American. Funding this important, should not be a ‘we need to pass it to see what is in it,’ type of vote. This is no way to operate.”
