Rep. Yoho Supports Kate’s Law and Cutting off Funding for Sanctuary Cities

Jul 14, 2015
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL-03) has placed his full support behind legislation that targets deported illegal aliens who return to the U.S., as well as “sanctuary cities” that provide them safe haven.

Kate’s Law mandates a five year sentence for deported aliens who illegally return to the U.S. The Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act and the Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities Act withhold funding for states and localities that circumvent the federal government’s efforts to enforce our immigration laws.  Congressman Yoho issued the following statement after signing onto these important bills:

“The administration has no intention of securing our southern border, enforcing current immigration laws, or holding sanctuary cities accountable. These cities blatantly thumb their nose at the federal government by declaring themselves sanctuaries and refusing to cooperate with immigration officials.

“Unfortunately we don’t have to look very hard for evidence that these failed policies pose a threat to American citizens all across the country – as we have seen with tragic murder in San Francisco recently. Before taking an innocent life, the perpetrator in that case was in the custody of local law enforcement and then released – after previously being deported five times!

“Today I am supporting legislation that will target criminals here illegally and stop all federal funding to states, cities, and localities who fail to enforce federal immigration laws or fail to work with immigration officials. It is beyond time to fight against the forces that are willfully weakening this country and putting our own citizens in danger.”
