Rep. Yoho Congratulates Third District Congressional Art Competition Winner
FLEMING ISLAND—Congressman Ted Yoho (FL-03) this week congratulated the winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition for Florida’s Third District, Brenna Vaughn of Fleming Island.
Ms. Vaughn, a sophomore at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, submitted her piece titled “Self Portrait With Hands.” The piece, done with acrylic on canvas, features creative use of color and expression.
“Self Portrait With Hands” was selected by a committee of art educators from across North Florida out of more than a dozen entries from high school students district-wide.
Congressman Yoho said, “Creativity and imagination are what drive the American dream. It was a pleasure to see the beautiful pieces created by our next generation of leaders, and I congratulate Brenna on winning the competition.”
The Congressional Art Competition is open to high school students across the country and coordinated by each Member of Congress for his or her district. Brenna Vaughn’s piece will be a part of the collection of winning pieces, called An Artistic Discovery, which will be displayed in the United States Capitol over the course of the next year.
