Democrats Hold Hostage Funding for DHS

Mar 1, 2015
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL-03) voted in favor of the Senate Amendment to H.R. 33 – Making Further Continuing Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2015 – to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) until March 6, 2015. In addition, he voted for a Motion to request a Conference with the Senate on H.R. 240 – Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2015.

This short-term continuing resolution (CR) will ensure that our national security and borders are protected while the House and Senate negotiate DHS funding for FY2015. An injunction from a federal judge is currently preventing the President from implementing his executive amnesty, so none of the funds in this CR may be used for the President’s amnesty.

Congressman Yoho gave the following statement after his vote:

Unfortunately Senate Democrats refused to put aside their political agenda and once again prevented the Senate from funding Homeland Security the right way. Due to their stubborn defense of the President’s unconstitutional executive actions on immigration, Congress needs more time to negotiate funding. The appropriations bill passed out of the House over a month ago would have fully funded DHS and also blocked the President’s executive amnesty – just as the American people wanted. Instead, Senate Democrats put their partisan agenda above national security and blocked that bill from passing the Senate. This next week, I encourage Republicans to stand strong in defense of the Constitution and against the President’s continued executive overreach. I also look forward to watching as the ruling against executive amnesty is upheld in federal court.
