Congressman Yoho Responds to President’s State of the Union Address

Jan 20, 2015
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL-03) gave the following statement after attending tonight’s State of the Union address:

“Tonight we have heard the President lay out his vision and priorities for America.

“While I don’t agree on his method or approach to making his agenda a reality - or his penchant for class warfare - I am ready to work and find common ground on issues that improve the lives of all Americans, build a stronger economy, and strengthen America. I firmly believe that government should work to empower people and not get in the way of the entrepreneurial spirit that has made our country great.

“Often times, the State of the Union is rhetoric over reality. I came to Congress with a clear objective and that was to put country first and rebuild America. Maintaining a strong national defense, making ourselves energy secure, reining in red tape and overregulation to create an open and robust economy, and strengthening our middle class have all been my guiding vision.

“It is no secret that the hard working people of this country make up the backbone of our economy. It is essential that we strengthen, with every possible vote, the middle class in America. The Administration over the years has focused on outdated, top down approaches to solving our problems. I plan to do all I can to create a new government that is bottom-up and responsive not only to the people I represent but to all Americans.

“With Republicans firmly in control of the House and Senate, this new Congress is ready to lead. For the first time during the President’s tenure in the Oval Office, he will be working with a Congress that is solely under Republican control. The American people sent a clear message- last November -to Washington and his Administration. It is my hope that President Obama takes the people's will into account and does not adhere to a go-it-alone approach but actively engages Republicans to create a better America. I welcome him to meet us at the table and I am ready to get to work.”
