WW II vet gets POW medal 70 years after capture
OCALA, FLA.
A 95-year-old World War II veteran has received a medal nearly 70 years after being held captive by Germany.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports (https://bit.ly/1D7KTai ) that Ralph Lamb received a Prisoner of War medal Sept. 19 after a veteran's group and Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Gainesville, worked to ensure the acknowledgement.
Lamb spent nearly seven months in Stalag 12 A, a north German POW camp, after being marched from Belgium after his capture in December 1944.
The advocacy group Honor-Release-Return met Lamb five years ago at a veterans gathering and got Yoho involved after hearing his story.
To receive the medal, his account had to be supported by documentation. He also has a Purple Heart.
Lamb was honored Oct. 4 in a memorial ceremony for veterans in Ocala.
